Hailing from Arkansas with a Philosophy degree, a background in darkroom photography, and a love for the big city, Shannon Sturgis is a culinary, lifestyle and wedding photographer living in Brooklyn, NY.

Shannon specializes in documentary, portrait and food photography. She has an exceptional ability to capture humor, beauty and sincerity in her photographs. Her favorite project at the moment is photographing her grandfather who is a farmer in Oklahoma. She's been shooting the goings on of his watermelon harvest for two seasons now.  Each year brings new characters and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a career farmer, something she finds deeply fascinating and proud to have in her lineage.

When Shannon shoots a wedding, she captures it in a documentary style.  She revels in finding those small moments and details that when all put together, truly make up someone's special day.

Formerly the Photo Editor at StarChefs.com, she enjoyed the opportunity to travel around the country photographing and tasting food and drink from up and coming chefs, mixologists and sommeliers from cities like Portland, Chicago, Austin, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., San Francisco as well as New York.

Prior to moving to the city in 2010, Shannon worked in Little Rock, Arkansas at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette as the staff photographer for both Sync Magazine and Arkansas Life. She shot anything and everything the publications needed, be it editorial, advertorial, product, events or food.

Shannon has been published in Saveur, Whisky Advocate, Wine Spectator, Mutineer Magazine, Beer Advocate, Edible Brooklyn, Edible Manhattan, Dessert Professional, Oxford American, and Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
